Data and Integration Specialist

UVA Health

POSTED ON 5/4/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/3/2026
Location Charlottesville, Virginia, United States of America Category Information Management, Services & Technology The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia Job Id R0082948 Job Type Full time

The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences IT Systems team at the University of Virginia seeks a Data and Integration Specialist to modernize workflows and strengthen system integration. In this role, you will build capacity across data management, analytics, automated workflows, and system integrations — supporting leadership reporting and creating sustainable operational processes enterprise-wide.

Candidate Profile

Staying on top of trends and keeping your skills sharp matters to you, but you know accomplishing goals and delivering on your commitments is your primary responsibility. You use innovative technology as an enabler, not just something to play with.

You see gaps and opportunities before others, understand why they matter, and begin collaborating on solutions.

You're equally comfortable writing a Python script and explaining how the result functions to someone who has never written a line of code. You know that a technically elegant solution nobody understands is a liability.

The details matter to you — not as an end in themselves, but because you've seen what happens downstream when they don't. When priorities shift, you recalibrate; operating in a dynamic environment is exciting to you, not something that shuts you down. You take ownership of what you build, end-to-end: you follow through without being asked, escalate when something needs it, and don't let things stall.

What You Bring

  • A builder's instinct for automation and integration — connecting systems, transforming data, and making workflows run without manual intervention
  • Analytical rigor: you gather information, weigh options, and reason toward solutions rather than defaulting to habit or precedent
  • The ability to translate technical work into clear, actionable language for faculty, department administrators, and college leadership — each of whom needs something different from you
  • Clean, trustworthy output: accurate data, solid documentation, and configurations that don't create surprises six months later
  • A track record of owning work from first draft to production, including the governance and quality practices that make it last

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build automated integrations and workflows between systems, leveraging APIs and AI-assisted tooling to improve operational efficiency
  • Partner with the existing Systems team to co-develop analytics solutions, data pipelines, and reporting products that serve college departments and leadership
  • Independently manage assigned projects and initiatives from planning through delivery, setting priorities, coordinating with stakeholders, and driving work to completion with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • Partner with project and program leads to understand and support their needs with robust technical solutions
  • Establish and maintain data management practices across platforms, ensuring consistent approaches to data quality, documentation, security, and lifecycle management
  • Serve as the primary administrator for the college’s Airtable data management environment, managing platform governance, base architecture, verified data sets, and operational configurations
  • Maintain and support cloud-hosted infrastructure and services in Azure
  • Contribute to continuously strengthening data and information security by implementing technical controls that address identified gaps
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, data science, or a related field
  • 4 years relevant professional experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and building data workflows, including data transformation processes, reporting pipelines, and analytical models across multiple technology platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of data management best practices, including data modeling, data security, data quality, and data governance principles
  • Ability to put data management standards into practice by implementing controls such as access rules, classification approaches, quality checks, and documentation within production systems
  • Experience administering a collaborative work management platform at an organizational level, including user management, structure and schema design, permissions, and standards enforcement (our primary platform is Airtable)
  • Demonstrated ability to build automated workflows and integrations connecting multiple systems using APIs, scripting, and modern automation tools, including emerging AI-assisted approaches
  • Sufficient experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure) to manage and maintain existing cloud-hosted resources and services
  • Experience with the Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem (Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or similar)
  • Familiarity with data governance in a higher education or similarly decentralized environment
  • Experience with modern AI development frameworks and tools for building workflow automations
  • Professional certification in data management (CDMP) or related discipline
  • Awareness of IT service management and information security frameworks (ITIL, ISO 27001, NIST)
  • Experience supporting audit or compliance initiatives through implemented technical controls
  • Track record of working effectively on small, versatile teams where individuals contribute across multiple areas
