Supervises Positions:
Job Summary
Responsible for workflow supervision of all activities related to Decontamination, Packaging, Sterilization, Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement in compliance with the departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Adheres to best practice by following all regulatory, federal, and state recommended practices and guidelines as stated by (but not limited to) AAMI (Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses), The JC (Joint Commission), CMS (Centers of Medicaid Medicare), APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology), and SGNA (Society Gastrointestinal Nurses Association).
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Sterile Processing required. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Recognized SPD certification required. Certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management), CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), or Certification from CBSPD, CSPDT (Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) required.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to assemble instrument sets and trays. Ability to learn and understand medical terminology. Maintains Sterile Processing Technician certification. Must maintain certification status and the annual educational hours required by each of the organizations.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Demonstrates evidence of and a desire to continue developing leadership characteristics and behaviors.
