About This Role
The UU World of Children Montessori School is seeking a caring and reliable Afternoon Assistant Teacher to support our Primary class (children ages 3–6) during the afternoon hours Monday-Thursday 2:30-5:30pm and Friday 11:45-5:30pm. This is an excellent opportunity for college students majoring in Early Childhood Education or a related field to gain practical experience in a Montessori environment. No Montessori certification required.
In addition to regular afternoon hours, there may be opportunities to sub in the morning.
What You'll Do
- Assist the Lead Teacher in managing the afternoon routine
- Supervise and engage with children during indoor and outdoor activities
- Help maintain a calm, clean, and inviting classroom environment
- Support children's independence and exploration in a respectful way
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
Requirements
- High school diploma
- Experience working with young children (through camps, babysitting, classroom, etc.)
- Ability to pass required state background checks
- Complete 15 hours of online training within 30 days of hire
- CPR/First Aid certification and completion of annual training will be required (support provided)
Nice to Have
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Familiarity or interest in Montessori education principles
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a strong work ethic
- Enthusiasm for nature-based learning and outdoor play
