Position Overview
The Graphic Design/Visual Arts Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. The Graphic Design/Visual Arts Teacher will engage scholars in creative exploration across traditional and digital art forms while cultivating skills that prepare them for future opportunities in design, media arts, and the broader visual arts industry.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive visual arts curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
  • Assess student progress and adapt lessons to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation.
  • Deliver rigorous, innovative instruction that introduces students to the principles of visual communication, design thinking, digital illustration, branding, layout design, and creative storytelling.
  • Design a studio-based, project-driven curriculum that integrates graphic design software, digital tools, and hands-on artistic techniques.
  • Provide instructions that explore elements such as typography, color theory, composition, image editing, vector design, and portfolio development while also teaching foundational skills in drawing, painting, and mixed media.
  • Continuously update professional knowledge and skills in arts education.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, fellow faculty members, and community partners to promote dance education and participation in extracurricular dance activities, performances, and events.
  • Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis.
  • Provide direct and indirect instruction.
  • Long and short-term planning addresses individual needs of students.
  • Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.
  • Evaluate students’ progress through frequent formative assessment.
  • Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment.
  • Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management.
  • Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.
  • Serve as an advisor to students, overseeing academic and behavioral progress.
  • Facilitate events, competitions, showcases, and field trips throughout the school year.
  • Report directly to the Principal and Director of Arts Education
  • Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Principal and Director of Arts Education
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year, accredited college or university in animation, digital arts, graphic design, or a related field.
  • GaPSC License; or license from a state with similar licensure requirements.
Work Experience
  • Valid Georgia teaching certification or ten years industry experience in the field of Graphic Design or Visual Arts
  • Demonstrated expertise in their subject matter and/or direct subject-area teaching experience.

  • Model correct use of language - oral and written;
  • Demonstrated willingness to be held accountable for students’ results.
  • Ability to work with diverse high school children.
  • Ability to be flexible and to work in a pleasant and cooperative manner
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member;
  • Possess a high degree of professionalism and discretion;
  • Knowledge of school safety amp; security procedures
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
