What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advanced Practice Provider, Internal Med-General Medicine position at UTMB Health Careers?

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs responsible advanced clinical care with a primary focus on Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and community-based internal medicine, in collaboration with supervising physicians and under approved protocols. This role manages the medical aspects of care including observation, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, evaluation, rehabilitation, patient counseling, and health education for individuals affected by SUDs and related medical conditions. The position emphasizes evidence-based addiction medicine, integrated primary care, and community health, while also supporting health promotion, illness prevention, and continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our team, focusing on supporting Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Community Medicine initiatives. This position is funded through a 50/50 split between the St. Vincent's Hope Clinics and the Department of Internal Medicine. It is uniquely structured to dedicate 50% of the time to inpatient and outpatient SUD clinical access, supported by the Department of Internal Medicine, and 50% to Community Medicine and/or clinical research access, supporting the St. Vincent's Hope Clinics and the Center for Addiction Sciences and Therapeutics (CAST).

The SUD clinics, inpatient consult service, and Community Medicine clinics serve as interprofessional clinical training grounds, making this role ideal for individuals with a passion for medical education in a supportive academic setting. While interest and experience in clinical research are also encouraged, they are not mandatory. This position is perfect for those eager to develop expertise in delivering specialized SUD care using a contemporary, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach within an expanding program focused on excellence in interprofessional clinical care, education, and research to best serve our community.

The APP will support specialized Primary Care SUD and Community Medicine clinics on Galveston Island on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, and will assist the Addiction Medicine consult service on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons on the Galveston Campus. The remaining time will be dedicated to community care, research, and/or administrative duties. While clinical experience in treating SUDs is not a prerequisite, applicants should be strong patient advocates for the treatment and prevention of SUDs. Experienced applicants and/or those with prior lived experiences are also encouraged to apply.
