About The Division Of Gastroenterology And Hepatology
The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is a dynamic and growing program within the Department of Medicine dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education. The Division includes more than 20 faculty and Advanced Practice Providers representing the full breadth of gastroenterology and hepatology specialties.
Faculty practices across four hospitals – Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton Danbury – providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, advanced endoscopic are, multidisciplinary management of complex liver disease.
Our ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship Program trains nine fellows across three years, offering a broad and rigorous curriculum supported by committed faculty mentors and diverse clinical experiences. The Division also plays an active role in medical student and resident education, contributing to the academic mission of the institution.
Position Summary
UTMB is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. This position emphasizes high-quality clinical care, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to providing exceptional gastroenterology care, advancing clinical education, and contributing to scholarly and quality improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to providing exceptional gastroenterology care, advancing clinical education, and contributing to scholarly and quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient gastroenterology care, including management of liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancers, and other digestive disorders.
- Participate in endoscopic procedures, as appropriate to training and experience.
- Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic settings.
- Engage in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including surgery, oncology, radiology, and nutrition—for optimal patient outcomes.
- Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and other academic programs.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.
- Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
- Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
