The UTMB Department of Family Medicine was founded as an independent department in 1971 but existed prior to that as a division of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Population Health. Department of Family Medicine faculty provide medical care to Galveston County residents through its three clinics, located on the UTMB Galveston campus, on the western end of Galveston Island, and in Dickinson, Texas, and through its inpatient service at the new Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. Additional services are rendered at the Gulf Health Care Center nursing home and the Galveston County Health District's Coastal Health & Wellness. At present the Department includes programs in medical student education, residency, faculty development, and research.

This position will be a joint position with the Sealy Institute for Vaccine Sciences with the provision of direct patient care, teaching and supervision of Family Medicine residents and medical students and coverage of other clinical services as needed. This faculty member will also serve as a Clinical Trials Researcher.

The Sealy Institute for Vaccine Sciences is free-standing within the John Sealy School of Medicine. It is a comprehensive vaccine institute that develops and supports multidisciplinary programs in discovery, basic and applied research; preclinical development; clinical trials/clinical research; public policy research, community outreach; and education and training. The mission of the SIVS is to improve human health by: Conducting research focused on the development and use of vaccine, developing public policy and education programs to foster vaccine acceptance, training investigators in the field of vaccine research and development

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as an investigator on vaccine clinical trials, which includes completing training, recruiting subjects, performing activities associated with the protocols including medical assessments, consents, and regulatory documentation, as needed.
  • Contribute to educating students, residents, and the public on various issues related to vaccines.

Candidate Requirements

  • MD or DO Degree
  • A strong commitment to research, patient care, medical student, and resident education.
  • A history of extramural funding and peer reviewer publication and other scholarship is preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship or Employment Authorization to work in the U.S.
