Assembles minor products or components with a small number of details within routine and highly repetitive assembly operations. Typically works at a workbench or on a conveyer line. Common tasks include checking, sorting, packaging, labeling, pasting, sniping, tying, or trimming either manually or by machine. Performs basic equipment adjustments, routine maintenance, and cleaning. May perform miscellaneous jobs such as moving assemblies/machines or cleaning floors. Typically has 0-2 years of experience and works under close supervision. Typical job titles include: General Labor, Machine Operator, Maker/Packer, Assembler and Line Operator.

Union Tank Car Company is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Primary Job Functions

This is not an exhaustive list and employees in these classifications frequently may be required to perform additional duties. Not all classifications will be required to perform all job functions.

• Reviews cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing prescribed work and prior to entering the tank car. Must learn and adhere to confined space entry procedures and all other safety rules.
• Checks calibration equipment to ensure accurate readings of LEL oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Dreager meters.
• Connects high-pressure air, steam, and water hoses, and operates cleaning rack equipment and performs manual cleanout of tank interior as required.
• Operates testing equipment to monitor cleaning operation of the system.
• Ensures that cleaning procedures and equipment conform to company and EPA standards.
• Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test
• Demonstrate job related computational knowledge or demonstrate who to read gauges, rulers, and other applicable measuring devices.
• Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
• Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
• Safety and quality focused
• Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely.
• Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract

Environmental & Working Conditions

• Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation. Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car.
• Exposed to dirt, fumes, smoke, and heat.
• Manual dexterity in operating control levers and buttons.
• Must be willing to work outdoors and exposed to all weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
