Field Meter Technician – Smart Meter Reprogramming Initiative

Pay: $26.00 per hour

Job Type: Full-Time Temporary Position (Estimated Project Length: 3–4 Months)
We are currently hiring a large-scale Smart Meter Reprogramming Initiative throughout Rhode Island and are seeking dependable, motivated individuals to join our field operations team.
This is a full-time temporary field position involving independent work in outdoor environments. Employees will be responsible for locating, inspecting, reprogramming, and supporting electric meter operations within assigned service areas while meeting daily production expectations.
Responsibilities
- Perform smart meter reprogramming and related field activities
- Navigate assigned routes using maps, GPS coordinates, and mobile technology
- Work independently while maintaining productivity and accuracy standards
- Follow all company safety procedures and operational guidelines
- Communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, and customers when needed
- Complete daily assignments within scheduled production timelines
- Accurately document completed work using handheld devices, tablets, and company technology
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to walk, stand, and work in the field for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Must be dependable, organized, and self-motivated
- Ability to read maps and follow GPS coordinates accurately
- Comfortable using handheld devices, tablets, and field technology applications
Preferred Experience
- Meter reading experience
- Meter installation experience
- Utility field service experience
Experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidates.
Additional Requirements
Final candidates must successfully complete:
- Background check
- Motor vehicle record review
- Post-offer drug screening consistent with applicable law
