Utility Concrete Products, LLC is the leading precast concrete producer in the Midwest. Utility Concrete Products is currently looking to add a Quality Control Technician to join our growing group of hardworking, intelligent, and dedicated employees. The Quality Control Technician is mainly responsible for the day to day quality control activities. A Quality Control Technician should be detailed oriented, accurate, have a strong work ethic and quality mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection & Testing
· Conduct pre-pour and post-pour inspections using established QC checklists and project-specific specifications.
· Perform fresh concrete testing for SCC and conventional mixes, including:
- Slump flow (ASTM C1611)
- J-Ring / Visual Stability Index (ASTM C1621, C1622)
- Density, air content, yield (ASTM C138, C173, C231)
- Temperature and compressive strength testing (ASTM C31, C39)
· Verify reinforcement placement, embedded items, dimensions, and surface finishes against approved drawings.
· Conduct aggregate and cementitious material sampling/testing as needed (ASTM C136, C595, C150).
Documentation & Reporting
· Record all results in QC logs, batch tickets, and daily reports.
· Generate Nonconformance (QDR) reports for products that do not meet requirements and coordinate corrective actions.
· Maintain calibration records for testing equipment and assist with scheduled calibrations (moisture probes, slump cones, scales, etc.).
Requirements
· Minimum 2 years of precast concrete or ready-mix QC experience.
· Knowledge of ASTM, PCI, and NPCA quality standards.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mix designs, and shop drawings.
· Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping accuracy, and communication skills.
Compliance & Coordination
· Ensure compliance with PCI MNL-116/117, NPCA QC Manual, and DOT specifications (IDOT, WISDOT, ODOT, etc.).
· Collaborate with production, maintenance, and project management to ensure defects are identified early and corrected efficiently.
· Participate in internal audits, CAPA reviews, and third-party audits (PCI, NPCA).
Preferred:
· ACI Level 1 Certification
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
· Experience with SCC production or testing in a precast environment.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
· Capable of working in plant environments with exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and noise.
· Must maintain awareness of safety protocols and use PPE consistently.
· Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.
· Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant.
