Job Overview
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting the safe and efficient operation of Utica Coffee Roasting’s facilities, production areas, equipment, and machinery. This position performs both internal and external maintenance, including preventative maintenance, general repairs, equipment troubleshooting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, building maintenance, and upkeep of the company’s coffee production and support equipment.
The Maintenance Technician will identify maintenance needs, respond to equipment or facility issues, complete repairs when qualified to do so, and coordinate with outside contractors or service providers when specialized work or licensed trades are required. The position plays an important role in minimizing equipment downtime, maintaining a safe workplace, and keeping the facility and production operations running efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment and machinery.
- Maintain and troubleshoot coffee roasting equipment, grinders, packaging equipment, conveyors, and other production-related machinery.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
- Assist with equipment installation, relocation, setup, and removal.
- Work with equipment manufacturers and outside service technicians when specialized repairs are needed.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including faucets, toilets, drains, pipes, valves, and other fixtures.
- Perform basic electrical maintenance and troubleshooting when qualified and legally permitted.
- Replace light bulbs, switches, outlets, fixtures, and other components as appropriate and within applicable requirements.
- Maintain exterior areas, including entrances, sidewalks, loading areas, and grounds as needed.
- Identify building issues that require professional contractors and coordinate service as directed.
- Schedule and assist with vendor visits for specialized equipment, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, or other services.
- Provide vendors with appropriate access to equipment and facility areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, manufacturing, production, commercial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and facility problems.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize maintenance needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, contractors, and vendors.
- Valid driver's license preferred/required if company vehicles or off-site responsibilities are involved.
