Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Heat Treating Operator is responsible for setting up and operate a variety of heat treating equipment and auxiliary equipment, examines problems, makes minor machine repairs and adjustments.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Heat Treating Operator is responsible for setting up and operate a variety of heat treating equipment and auxiliary equipment, examines problems, makes minor machine repairs and adjustments.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Identifies material samples, lots of parts, or tooling to be heat treated and obtains specifications for treatment required by reviewing materials and documents.
- Segregates orders and material samples according to specified heat treat temperature, and places parts and samples into charge baskets and trays, organizing each charge for most efficient use of furnace.
- Records pertinent data on appropriate forms.
- Sets furnace controls to assure specified temperature, dew point, vacuum, timing, etc., and records settings on chart and/or production log.
- Loads charges into furnace. Sets controls.
- Verifies proper operation of furnace by observing pyrometer and other instruments on furnace and adjusts controls as required.
- Removes charge trays from furnace after specified time.
- Rinses quenches and/or cool materials.
- Removes treated materials from charge trays to appropriate pans or other containers.
- Places travelling documents with completed work orders and moves to holding area.
- Heat treats material samples for laboratory testing and determination of effects of various temperatures on materials for future reference in heat treating products.
- Records part and processing data on proper form on a daily basis.
- Performs routine maintenance of heat treat equipment such as draining and replenishing water, oil, and solvents, checking contents of argon and nitrogen tanks and requesting replenishment, changing gas and air filters and flow raters as required.

- Promote product safety by properly handling products
- Be aware of counterfeit product and report suspected product when identified
- Observe company policy, safety and security procedures.
- Perform all activities in conformance with the Customer requirements and UTD Quality System procedures.
- Comply with all company and department housekeeping and safety rules. Report any violations or safety concerns to management promptly.
- Preparing and mapping furnace loads for processing
- Adjusting and monitoring furnace equipment controls
- Transferring furnace loads into and out of thermal processing equipment
- Recording and documenting the processing of materials/parts through the heat treating department
- Reporting equipment malfunctions and repairs needed to the appropriate authority
- Operating scale removal/surface finishing equipment to finalize surface finish upon completion of the heat treatment process
- Repacking heat treated parts for further processing
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
- Ability to perform repetitive motion (rotating wrists, keyboarding, using small/large tools)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to tolerate constant noise (machine motors)
- Ability to work safely in the presence of hazardous chemicals and hazardous conditions
- Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
- Vision abilities including close vision and the ability to adjust focus
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, thermal processing, or relatable experience
