Medical Assistant for Bariatrics
Typical hours for this position: Monday thru Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Medical Assistant
Utah Surgical Associates is seeking the services of a Medical Assistant who is a team player willing to help with our extremely busy bariatric program and is passionate about helping others change their lives. The Medical Assistant performs a variety of patient care activities to assist the Health Care Provider. They deliver quality customer service and maintain established quality control standards. The Medical Assistant assists in the care of the patient by following through on orders for treatments.
Primary Responsibilities:
As a Bariatric Surgery Medical Assistant you will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the medical office. You will support the nurse and doctor through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The target is to complete all activities accurately, with high quality and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Populate and update patient charts and forms
- Scan and import patient records
- Follow-up calls for patient testing and referrals
- Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
- Take medical stock inventory and communicate supply shortages
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Clean treatment rooms and medical instruments
- Coordinate with clinic staff to ensure a positive patient flow, waiting room, and exam room experience
- Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
- Take messages from patients with clinical questions and return messages, under the supervision of the nurse and physician
- Assist nurse and surgeon in preparing for examinations and minor procedures
- Attend all regular staff meetings
- Perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the nurse and surgeon

- Proven working experience as a medical assistant or medical secretary
- Motivated self-starter

- Degree in medical assistance
Daily duties include: Go through faxes daily, fill out orders (lab, EGD, radiology, I.V. therapy, feeding tube supplies) for bariatric patient’s pre-op and post-op, give Vit. B12 injections, update Bari-Trax, fill out FMLA paperwork, make phone calls, check messages, take messages, follow-up with patients we haven’t heard from, Home Health Orders, review labs, along with any other tasks needed.
Position Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program. Previous clinical experience of one-year minimum or externship recommendation. Understanding of medical terminology. Knowledge of EMRs. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.
Phlebotomy certification required.
