The University of Texas at Arlington (“UTA”) is pleased to announce the cluster hiring of multiple tenured and/or tenure track academic appointments representing emerging and established career stages, who will contribute to the advancement of Brain Health. We are seeking cross disciplinary research that spans cellular, molecular, genomic, pre-clinical, computational neuroscience, and human studies across the life span to advance knowledge in areas associated with brain health, including cognitive decline, neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders, dementia and related diseases, and mental health. Additionally, investigators using multimodal neuroimaging, artificial intelligence, and multi-omics approaches to build diagnostic tools, identify biomarkers, develop models and tools to predict and improve treatment outcomes to impact population health in both children and adults, and/or discover targets for drug development are strongly encouraged to apply.UT Arlington seeks candidates whose scholarship advances learning and knowledge through cross-disciplinary teaching, research, service, and commercialization in any of the following disciplinary areas:Nursing and Health Innovation: Areas of priority include Nursing, Kinesiology, and Public Health. More information on our research strengths can be found at https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/liberal-arts/.We are seeking candidates with expertise in Brain Health, as broadly described above, with a focus on research that spans cellular, molecular, genomic, preclinical, and human studies across the life span to advance knowledge in areas including cognitive decline, neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders, dementias and related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, and mental health. Investigators using imaging, artificial intelligence, and multi-omics approaches would be favorably considered.The ideal candidate is a nationally recognized scientist with a demonstrated record of accomplished and productive projects in the aforementioned areas of research. UTA is particularly interested in finding applicants with programs funded in both basic, translational, and clinical research with a track record of funding from NIH and other agents including pharmaceutical industry. The applicant will have demonstrated impact of his/her research by publishing findings in prestigious scientific journals and through invited presentations at international conferences.In addition to their tenure home department, the scientist will work closely with Dr. Christos Papadelis, Director of the Pediatric Brain Health and Neurosciences Center at UTA. The scientist will be involved in the academic activities of the center; he/she will join a diverse team of experts conducting research in a dynamic environment involving strong collaborative links between researchers working in projects focusing on the investigation of brain health in projects focusing on cognitive decline, neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and autism spectrum disorders), dementia and related diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's disease), and mental health.The successful candidate will be expected to build and lead an independent research program. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of UTA’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). The scientist will be responsible for designing, organizing, and conducting highly specialized and advanced research studies independently or in collaboration with other investigators at UTA and in collaboration with Cook Children’s Health Care System scientists and clinicians. Responsibilities include the preparation and submission of grant proposals from internal and external funding mechanisms, the development of design, initiation, conduction, analysis, and publication of research projects of both a retrospective and prospective nature, as well the participation in high quality development, submission, maintenance, analysis, and publication of complex and high risk/high value medical specialty research protocols. The scientist will lead a team of trainees (e.g., research fellows, graduate and undergraduate students) and research assistants, who conduct highly specialized and advanced research studies in brain body science research field.University NotablesUTA has established a 3,500 sq ft Clinical Imaging Research Center, which will house a 3 Tesla MRI dedicated to clinical research.In 2024, UTA will launch the Arlington Study of Healthy Aging, a single-site, multiethnic, community-cohort study designed to support hypothesis-driven cross-disciplinary research on the mechanisms causing functional decline with age using advanced imaging, genetics and multi-omics, exercise science, neuroscience, and remote monitoring.North Texas Genome Center provides massive genome sequencing capabilities for biotech and health research.Center for Innovation in Health InformaticsShimadzu Institute for Research Technologies is a public-private partnership that provides UTA faculty access to over $25 million in state-of-the-art research instruments and facilities.Brand-new Center for Educational, Research, Policy, and Practice serves as a resource for research and collaboration among educators and leaders throughout Texas and the United States.UTA has an established collaboration with Cook Children’s Health Care System that secure access to children with different neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders and to neuroimaging facilities, such as magnetoencephalography (MEG), high-density electroencephalography (HD-EEG), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
