POSITION SUMMARY

A leader on the fundraising team as well as in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, this individual is responsible for securing major and principal gifts, including those from grateful patients and their families. This team member will build trust and deep relationships with assigned faculty leaders, help identify funding needs and priorities, and serve as a liaison between the Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the Departments of Neurology, Neurological Surgery, Neuroscience, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, and the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute.

 The successful candidate will have significant experience raising funds in an academic medical setting, including six- and seven-figure gifts. The candidate should also have experience managing fundraisers and bring creativity as a thought leader for revamping our grateful patient program and physician engagement efforts.

 Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development Programs, this individual should embrace our existing collaborative culture, thrive in a team-first environment, and have a deep passion for advancing the mission of UT Southwestern.

The UT Southwestern Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute (OBI) is led by its esteemed Director, William Dauer, M.D. An acclaimed physician investigator in dystonia and Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Dauer is focused on developing the OBI into the leading center for the research and treatment of brain and spine diseases and illnesses, as well as the means for preventing them. 

 With William Harbour, M.D., at its helm, the Department of Ophthalmology has received national and international acclaim for its clinical practice and patient care, research, and physician training. Dr. Harbour is passionate about turning advances in the lab into improvements in patient care through cutting-edge research in proteomics, genetics, and pharmacology.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten (10) years of fundraising or related sales/client facing experience.

PREFERRED

Fundraising in academic medicine.

JOB DUTIES

  1. Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospects capable of making gifts of $1,000,000 .
  2. Manage and develop a portfolio of prospective donors and implement solicitation and engagement strategies in support of UT Southwestern priorities.
  3. May supervise others in performance of duties.
  4. May serve as clinical line liaison.
  5. Build and nurture effective working relationships with administrative leadership, physicians, researchers, and volunteer leadership.
  6. Work closely with Stewardship team to identify and implement appropriate stewardship strategies.
  7. Work collaboratively as a member of the Development team.
  8. Identify, recruit, and train volunteer leaders who can extend the reach of staff through involvement in the cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors.
  9. Write letters, proposals, and case materials.
  10. Utilize constituent relationship management system to strategically plan and track activities.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
