Job Summary
UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring an Anatomical Embalmer Assistant, Willed Body Program.
The Willed Body Program is a critical part of medical research and providing an opportunity to advance medical education.
Assisting Anatomical Embalmers in the preparation room. Preparing anatomical specimens for medical research and education (Including embalming of cadavers and anatomical tissue, processing of fresh anatomical cadavers, specimens.) Proper processing, storing, and disposal of cadavers used in anatomical teaching. Meets and/or contacts next-of-kin to obtain additional information to complete first call sheet, death certificate or cremation forms, and report of death; answers any questions family may have. Picks-up and transports donors to Willed Body Program from hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences both within and outside metroplex. Assists faculty members in preparation for anatomy classes as requested and all other internal department courses held in gross laboratory. Performs other duties as assigned.
THIS POSITION IS 4 DAYS A WEEK 10 HOUR SHIFTS -- FRIDAY THRU MONDAY 5 AM TO 3:30 PM
Experience and Education
Completion of two (2) years of college to include courses in biology, chemistry, or related subjects, graduation from accredited school of mortuary science with one (1) year related work experience.
Job Duties
- Assists in embalming, dissection, storage, and disposal of cadavers used in teaching laboratories
- Picks up and transports donors to Willed Body Program from hospitals, nursing homes, medical examiner\'s offices, and residences; determines acceptance of deceased donors who are not enrolled in program
- Meets and/or contacts next-of-kin to obtain additional needed information to complete first call sheet, death certificate cremation forms, and the report of death; answers any questions family may have
- Assists in shipping of specimen(s) to outside institutions and preparation of prosected teaching material for university courses
- Performs other duties as assigned
