MD Anderson's Head & Neck Center provides highly specialized, team-based care for patients with complex head and neck cancers, drawing on one of the nation's deepest pools of clinical expertise.

The Senior Audiologist is an integral member of the Head & Neck Center healthcare team. The primary responsibility of the Senior Audiologist is the evaluation and treatment of patients with hearing and/or balance disorders of functional or organic origin. This role directly impacts patient care through comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow-up.

This position serves as a clinical and educational resource, mentoring students, clinical fellows, and designated staff. This position demonstrates leadership within the program and supports the management team in operational and programmatic efforts.

The ideal candidate will bring experience with cochlear implants, vestibular testing, and auditory brainstem response (ABR), along with hands-on experience or a solid understanding of ototoxicity monitoring and its clinical importance. The candidate will also demonstrate an interest in oncology care and have experience working with post-surgical patients.

Leadership Within the Department

  • Collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams
  • Leading at least one performance improvement project, clinical research initiative, or program development effort annually, with meaningful outcomes

Expertise in Oncology Care

Demonstrates advanced expertise in oncology-focused audiologic care, including competency in all core clinical service areas:

  • Pure tone audiometry
  • Bone conduction testing
  • Videonystagmography (VNG) and Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP)
  • Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE)
  • Electrocochleography (ECochG)
  • Awake Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
  • Hearing aid testing and fitting
  • Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) testing and fitting

The Senior Audiologist also demonstrates competency in complex or specialized services, including:

  • Sedated ABR testing
  • Cochlear implant evaluations and services
  • Conditioned play audiometry
  • Ototoxicity monitoring

Professional experience reflects oncology-focused expertise through:

  • Lead authorship in relevant publications and/or
  • A consistent record of podium presentations at regional, national, or international professional meetings

EDUCATION

  • Required: Master's Degree Audiology.

Work Experience

  • Required: Three years Relevant work experience in an outpatient or acute care hospital setting post-clinical fellowship, to include one year of experience in an oncology setting and two years relevant work experience post clinical fellowship.
  • Successful completion of MD Anderson fellowship can substitute one of the three required years of experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: CCC-A - Clinical Competence Audiology Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association upon hire.
  • Required: AUD - Audiologist License to practice Audiology issued by the Texas State Committee of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology upon hire.
