Postdoctoral Fellow - Genetics

UT MD Anderson
Houston, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 4/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/27/2026
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our laboratory in the Department of Genetics at MD Anderson Cancer Center to study lineage plasticity and therapy resistance in prostate cancer. Our research integrates genetically engineered mouse models, primary organoid systems, and multi-omic approaches to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving tumor cell state transitions. The primary goal of training in this laboratory is to develop independent scientists capable of addressing fundamental questions in cancer biology, with a particular focus on lineage plasticity and tumor evolution.

The successful candidate will design and execute independent research projects using organoid and in vivo mouse models, including tumor transplantation and therapeutic studies, and will apply molecular, cellular, and genomic techniques such as single-cell profiling to analyze tumor evolution and cell fate dynamics. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to analyze and interpret complex datasets, collaborate with computational and interdisciplinary teams, and present findings in manuscripts and at scientific meetings. The lab provides a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art resources at MD Anderson, along with strong mentorship and opportunities for scientific independence and career development.

All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The postdoctoral fellow will gain expertise in designing and executing hypothesis-driven research using advanced experimental systems, including genetically engineered mouse models and primary organoid platforms. Training will emphasize the development and application of innovative model systems to perturb candidate regulators of cell fate, including inducible and conditional genetic models, lineage tracing approaches, and CRISPR/Cas9-based engineering strategies such as nuclease editing, base editing, and prime editing. The fellow will acquire strong proficiency in in vivo tumor modeling, organoid-based functional assays, and experimental design to interrogate mechanisms of cellular plasticity.

In addition, the fellow will learn to effectively collaborate with computational scientists for the analysis and interpretation of single-cell and multi-omic datasets, integrating these data with experimental perturbation studies to generate and test biological hypotheses. Training will also focus on developing critical skills in scientific communication, including manuscript writing, grant preparation, and presentation of research findings. By the end of the training period, the fellow is expected to demonstrate scientific independence, a strong publication record, and a well-defined research vision to support transition to an independent research career.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD in cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field, with prior experience in mouse models, organoid systems, or cancer biology preferred. And a strong interest in research.
