Within Materials Mgmt Services Ops, the Materials Management Inventory Planner plays a critical role in ensuring the availability of supplies that support clinical care, laboratory operations, research activities, and supportive services. The Materials Management Inventory Planner collaborates across departments to maintain efficient inventory practices, optimize supply levels, and support operational excellence.

At UT MD Anderson, the Materials Management Inventory Planner contributes to a highly coordinated supply chain environment that supports high-acuity patient care and innovative research. The Materials Management Inventory Planner is responsible for planning, monitoring, and replenishing inventory while partnering with clinical, operational, financial, and procurement stakeholders to minimize waste, control costs, and prevent supply interruptions.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting inventory planning, supply chain operations, purchasing activities, inventory analysis, and customer-focused service environments. A successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency with inventory management systems and Microsoft Excel, possess strong analytical and organizational skills, and be comfortable collaborating with clinical, operational, and vendor partners. Salary Range (40-hour work week): Minimum $25.48/hour - Midpoint $31.73/hour - Maximum $37.98/hour

Work Location: Onsite

Responsibilities

Daily Inventory Management

  • Review the Open Purchase Order Report as determined by leadership
  • Track obsolete items and associated costs to support accurate inventory adjustments
  • Coordinate and perform annual cycle counting of PAR and warehouse locations
  • Ensure inventory purchase orders for warehouse and PAR areas are accurate and communicated to vendors according to contract requirements
  • Process returns, special orders, and hot shot orders efficiently through purchase order processes
  • Coordinate item changes, product conversions, and inventory updates
  • Monitor no-move items and perform annual reviews for removal following analysis and approval requirements
  • Review inventory variance reports and perform cycle counts to identify and address discrepancies
  • Support distributor relationships by monitoring unfilled lines and unstickered item reports
  • Maintain accurate item master file data, bin locations, and bin labeling within MMS information systems

Vendor, Procurement & Supply Support

  • Manage vendor orders, backorders, substitutions, and supply issues
  • Work directly with vendors to optimize inventory and supply levels
  • Coordinate ongoing and semi-annual physical inventory activities
  • Support procurement and inventory replenishment efforts across multiple operational areas
  • Collaborate with Purchasing Services, Value Analysis Team members, and healthcare partners when sourcing alternate, infrequently used, or new products

Customer Service & Collaboration

  • Serve as a departmental representative with Operating Room, Supply Chain Services, and Accounts Payable stakeholders
  • Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to ensure material needs are met
  • Participate in Value Analysis Team initiatives and other functional teams
  • Identify customer concerns, implement resolutions, and provide responsive problem-solving support
  • Demonstrate effective decision-making and concentration skills in high-pressure situations

Reporting, Reconciliation & Analysis

  • Provide productivity statistical support and report metrics for monthly scorecards
  • Perform monthly reconciliations between purchases and issues to support perpetual inventory management
  • Generate productivity and utilization reports using Microsoft Excel and MMS information system reports
  • Input, retrieve, analyze, and interpret data from manual and computerized information systems
  • Review inventory utilization trends and recommend minimum and maximum PAR levels and storage requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency within perpetual inventory locations

Training & Systems Support

  • Maintain competency in software applications used to support Materials Management Services inventory operations
  • Attend all required departmental training programs
  • Achieve a minimum passing score of 80% on required institutional training assessments
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Work Experience

  • Required: 3 years Purchasing and/or inventory management experience. or
  • Required: 1 year With preferred degree.
  • Preferred: AI Experience, inventory planning experience, and warehouse management system experience. MS Excel using pivot tables and vlookups a plus
