The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking an experienced Electronic Technician to support the PCPF-Operations & Maintenance department, which provides continuous support for mission-critical infrastructure that directly impacts patient care. The Electronic Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and HVAC systems in a highly regulated healthcare environment. The Electronic Technician works independently during assigned shifts while coordinating with Operations & Maintenance team members and contractors to ensure uninterrupted system reliability.

This position requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and effective communication to support patient care equipment and facilities.

Our ideal candidate is a reliable, self-motivated individual with strong HVAC troubleshooting experience, prior exposure to healthcare or similarly regulated environments, and the ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with supervisors, team members, and customers. Preferred qualifications include trade licensure or certification in HVAC or electrical disciplines, experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System, and demonstrated customer service skills in critical operational settings.

The annual salary range for this position is Minimum $69,000.00, Midpoint $86,000.00, and Maximum $103,000.00.

The typical work schedule is Saturday-Sunday, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, and Monday-Tuesday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM.

The position is 100% onsite.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance, Repair & Troubleshooting

  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and HVAC systems
  • Perform functions on live circuits and in operating control enclosures in accordance with NEC guidelines
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair 120, 208, 240, and 480 volt controls and equipment
  • Investigate outages and restore system functionality
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate HVAC systems including air handling units, fan coil units, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves, and associated equipment

Systems Installation & Calibration

  • Install, calibrate, and test assigned systems using manual dexterity, hand tools, and visual inspection
  • Run conduit, pull wire, and install circuits for electrically powered units
  • Program microprocessors for initial commissioning and tune operating controls
  • Examine and test mechanisms and circuitry to identify defects and determine corrective actions

Technical Knowledge & Tools

  • Read, draw, and interpret electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and HVAC schematics, one-line diagrams, and control sequences of operation
  • Utilize thermocouple calibrators, resistance temperature detector calibrators, voltage and current generators, multimeters, and decade resistance boxes
  • Apply skilled knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the electronic technician trade

Customer Service & Emergency Response

  • Respond to customer service calls and facility emergency responses, including code red situations
  • Provide professional customer service in active patient care environments
  • Coordinate with Operations & Maintenance team members and contractors to support continuous system uptime

Documentation & Communication

  • Document corrective actions, labor hours, and materials used on work orders
  • Requisition materials required to complete assigned work
  • Communicate timely and accurate information to supervisors regarding issues encountered
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Electronics or related Field.

Work Experience

  • Required: 4 years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include two years of electrical experience. or
  • Required: 2 years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include one year of electrical experience, with Journeyman Electrician's license.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: JRNY-E - Journeyman Electrician Journeyman Electrician's license Upon Hire
