Job Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Development (DOD), the position cultivates, maintains, and stewards relationships with current and prospective donors in support of the School of Medicine, Fisch College of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, and School of Health Professions. The DOD manages a portfolio of major gift prospects to include individuals, corporations, and private foundations. The DOD works closely with the appropriate deans/administrators, physicians, staff, and advancement team to maximize philanthropic opportunities.
Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Cultivates existing relationships to increase current and future philanthropic support.
- Proactively identifies new prospects and builds relationships with the intent of securing major, leadership, and principal gifts.
- Makes personal visits, creates proposals, and written correspondence as primary methods of donor engagement. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages daily activities to maximize gift solicitation efforts and events.
- Uses all available University resources to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift support within reason.
- Collaborates with University partners/other development officers or units to coordinate fundraising strategies for donors with multiple interests.
- As appropriate, may work to design donor and volunteer cultivation events to attract and retain interest in colleges and affiliated programs.
- Works daily to ensure timely and accurate completion of proposals, pledges, and fund agreements. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospects, and generates reports and other correspondence as necessary to cultivate prospects.
- Proactively represents UT Tyler at external events to identify prospects and grow network of support.
- Portfolio Management: Manages portfolio consisting of 75 to 150 major gift prospects.
- Develops and manages portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects capable of making significant gifts to secure gift commitments. Plans and implements programs that include measurable targets for each fiscal year (e.g., cultivation, personal visits, stewardship activities, solicitations).
- Serve as a key relationship builder in support of scholarships, research, capital, operational, and other priorities within Health Affairs
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Development – Health Affairs.

- Knowledge of current issues facing public universities and health/medical institutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required along with other common fundraising applications.
- Expert knowledge of fundraising techniques.
- Solid ability to recruit and manage activities of volunteer staff.
- Frequent travel may be required to engage donors appropriately.

Required Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- 3 years in healthcare fundraising or other healthcare work is required.
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in fundraising, sales, or business development is preferred.
