Faculty position employed by the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, practicing in UT Health East Texas facilities.

 

UT Tyler School of Medicine is seeking a Full-Time Trauma Surgery Physician to join the fast-growing family of UT Health East Texas hospitals and clinics.  UT Tyler is uniquely situated as the only level 1 trauma center in the East Texas Piney Woods Trauma Service Area G. This allows coverage of a population of over 1 million residents across 18 counties despite residing in a city that has maintained the quality of life of a smaller city.

 

About the Position:

  • Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Join a group consisting of five trauma/critical care surgeons with plans to expand to 6–7
  • Call shifts for Trauma (includes coverage of the Trauma ICU) (9) primary in house 12hr shifts per month and (9) secondary (backup) trauma call 12hr shifts from home
  • Call for Emergency Gen Surgery is required and are separate (3) 24hr shifts per month
  • Both services are resident staffed and there is also 24/7 midlevel coverage for the trauma service/trauma ICU
  • The trauma / critical care service will cover day and night shifts 365 days a year for these high-volume and high-acuity hospitals

Responsibilities Include:

  • Critical Care and surgical management of all types of trauma patients including neurotrauma and complex, critically ill general surgery ICU patients
  • Teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students (third year clerkship students)
  • Participation in research projects
  • ATLS instruction

Requirements include:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery
  • General Surgery Residency completion required from an ACGME accredited program
  • Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care or Trauma completion required from an accredited program featuring certification in Critical Care
  • Experience in laparoscopic or robotic surgery is preferred

Academic affiliation with UT Tyler School of Medicine, including general surgery residency program with resident coverage.

OR: 12 Rooms, 2 Da Vinci Xi, 2 Cysto Rooms,

CV OR: 2 Rooms

3 Cath Labs, 3 EP Labs, including hybrid OR

ICU: 78 Beds

Labor and Delivery: 14 Beds, 20 Step Down Beds

NICU: 9 NICU Beds, 7 Step Down Beds
