Role Description The Traffic Safety Flagger (Traffic Control Technician (Flagger)) is a full-time, on-site role based in the greater Seattle WA area. This role is responsible for directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around road work zones using approved signs, paddles, and hand signals, while maintaining a high level of safety awareness.

Day-to-day tasks include setting up and removing traffic control devices, following established traffic control plans, monitoring roadway conditions, and implementing approved traffic control plans, while reporting changing conditions to supervisors when adjustments are necessary. The Traffic Safety Flagger communicates with construction crews, supervisors, and other flaggers via radios or verbal signals to coordinate safe movement of equipment and vehicles. The position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions. Position requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequently lifting and carrying traffic control devices weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive movements while working outdoors. Applicants must also consistently follow company policies, applicable state regulations, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess skills in Traffic Control and Road Safety, with an understanding of safe work zone setup and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Candidates should possess strong Communication skills to relay clear instructions to drivers, pedestrians, and crew members.
  • Candidates should possess familiarity with Road Construction environments and the ability to work safely around heavy equipment and changing site conditions.
  • Candidates should possess Training-related skills, including the ability to learn and apply company procedures, and maintain any required flagger or safety certifications.
  • Reliability and punctuality, with the ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, overtime, weekends, or varying shifts as business needs require.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift and place cones, signs, and other traffic control devices, and work in varied outdoor conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of local traffic laws and work zone safety standards; prior experience as a flagger or in traffic control is beneficial.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; valid driver's license and the ability to reliably report to assigned job sites are preferred.
  • Employees are expected to immediately report unsafe conditions, stop work when an imminent safety hazard exists, and actively contribute to a culture of safety for coworkers, motorists, and the public.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
