The United States Tennis Association, Northern California Section (USTA NorCal), based in Alameda, California, is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization promoting and growing the game of tennis across Northern California and Northwest Nevada since 1953.

As one of 17 geographic sections of the governing body of tennis in the United States, USTA NorCal is deeply rooted in its commitment to building an active and engaged tennis community. USTA NorCal engages audiences across the whole community and brings tennis to a diverse set of players of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. From grassroots tennis in the parks, organized leagues, and tournaments to tennis scholarships, grants, and education resources, this team champions tennis throughout Northern California.

Job Summary:

The Player Development Coordinator organizes and coordinates junior tennis camps, events, and educational programs across Northern California. This role coordinates and facilitates event logistics, communicates with junior players and parents.

Collaborate with tennis partners to provide opportunities and resources for Team NorCal athletes. Tennis background strongly preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the Coaching Programs Manager and Coaches Commission to help evaluate

and enhance player development programs.

  • Organize and coordinate well-run training camps and events (i.e. Team NorCal, USTA

Camps, EDC, etc.) that meet the needs of our players. This includes booking host facilities,

selecting players, ordering catering, etc.

  • Act as on-site staff liaison for all Player Development events to assist with event setup and

breakdown, parent/player education sessions, and overall camp logistics with host site,

coaches, parents, players, and guests.

  • Organize and act as the point person for the annual Gen Gap Invitational for top junior and

adult players during the summer.

  • Act as an active and communicative advisor and resource for players and parents who seek

information about NorCal junior tennis and pathway programs and opportunities.

  • Coordinate and host on-court/off-court educational resources and programs (webinars,

town halls, college forums, etc.) for players and parents to utilize throughout their

development pathways.

  • Foster and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with external organizations to

enhance program offerings, expand resources, and support the growth and success of Team

NorCal players and parents.

  • Track and reconcile event expenses to ensure alignment with the approved budget.
  • Stay up to date on top NorCal junior, collegiate, and pro player results on a local, national,

and international level, and work cross-collaboratively with the Marketing team to publish

timely social media content and feature stories that highlight and promote Team NorCal.

  • Coordinate and update internal calendars and documents for camps and other player

development events.

  • Support the Junior Competition department with events, tournaments, and invitational

player selections as needed.

Travel Requirements

  • Attend local and national staff training and meetings as required by your supervisor.
  • Ability to travel within the Section and occasionally outside the Section.
  • Attend and supervise events throughout the year (such as camps, education sessions, and

other external events).

  • Must be available for travel, to work frequent weekends and extra hours as necessary.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Work both independently and collaboratively, combining vision with administrative

competence.

  • Strong project management skills including work/event planning, and budgeting.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Enjoyment of event planning, organization, venue setup and breakdown, etc.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence of work product.
  • Very strong administrative and data management skills with experience using Google Suites and/or Microsoft Office.
  • BA/BS degree earned from an accredited college or university or equivalent work

experience.

  • Long-term tennis playing experience is beneficial, or a minimum of two years’ experience

working in the tennis industry.

  • Ability to lift objects (30lbs or heavier) during loading and unloading cars and storage.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel.

This is a full-time job (8am-5pm M-F and weekends as needed) and the expected hourly compensation for this position is $29.27 - $34.15 per hour depending on candidate ability and experience and reports to the Sr. Manager, Junior Competition.

The role is based in Alameda office 2 days a week with the option to telecommute 3 days per week. We prefer a candidate who resides in any Bay Area county.

This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, and unique skills.
