What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Welder position at USS Lexington Museum?
Scope: To preserve the hull and other surfaces among the USS Lexington through the use of welding and fabrication. Also to work with others in the maintenance department to accomplish larger projects.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ship’s welding and fabrication as required for repairs and the accomplishment of newly developed projects.
- Responsible for the maintenance and security of all welding and fabrication equipment.
- Performs basic repairs on torches, hoses, regulators, welding machines and power tools.
- Responsible for the supervision of all subordinates and volunteers who are assigned duties related to the Welding Department.
- Keep area clean and put tools, equipment, solvents in their proper area.
- Performs other duties in support of projects as directed by the Chief of Maintenance and Director of Operations and Exhibits.
Knowledge Required: Basic welding safety & training, some experience preferred
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the environment is moderate, and may be exposed to chemical agents, plumbing supplies and fumes.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is continuously required to sit, use continuous hand, arm and finger manipulation while performing the daily job function; continuously walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and standing/walking on steel railways requiring balance. Environment requires climbing steep stairwells, so comfortable clothing and shoes with non-skid soles are recommended. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25-50 pounds. The vision requirements include: clear concise, close/distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
