Job Summary
The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for the position of Instructor in the School of Library and Information Science. This is a 12-month non-tenure track position with a primary faculty appointment in the School of Library and Information Science and an affiliate faculty status in University Libraries. The successful candidate will teach two synchronous courses each semester in the fully online bachelor's or master's degrees programs and lead AI initiatives for the University Libraries.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Ideal candidates will have established expertise in librarianship and artificial intelligence that complements the teaching needs and existing strengths of the faculty. In addition, we seek applicants who can teach a variety of courses in emerging information science areas, such as data science, informatics and artificial intelligence, as well as courses in librarianship, including cataloging, collection development, and reference. Primary job duties include:
- The ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds.
- The ability to teach in the core curriculum as well as develop new course offerings in the candidate's area of specialization.
- Follow School and University policies and perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide leadership and expertise for AI initiatives in University Libraries.
- Work with library faculty and staff to discover, develop, and implement AI related policies, procedures, and workflows in University Libraries.
