Job Summary
Instructional
staff for the nurse anesthesia program will require anesthesia professionals
with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Duties for the Spring semesters of employment include simulation
laboratory organization and inventory in addition to teaching evidence based
technical skills for student simulation days. Summer semesters include 8 days
for teaching evidence-based student skills in the simulation laboratory. Fall semesters
include 10 simulation/working
days will be required. The staff will gain valuable experience toward a career in
nursing education and assist in preparing new students for their upcoming role in administering
anesthesia.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Along with a full-time faculty member, instructional staff member of the NAP will mentor 4 – 6 DNP students as their bi-annual evaluation faculty member.
- If the instructional staff is interested in teaching didactic courses, they may choose to design two evidence-based lectures using required program textbooks and current anesthesia/nursing literature. This is optional and is meant to offer an opportunity to build teaching skills.
- Staff will assist with simulation days for student “pass offs”, full OR simulations, and objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs). This is variable by semester as is outlined in the Job Summary above, and dates will be pre-planned in collaboration with the other faculty.
- Assist in NAP interview admission processes as desired. A schedule will be provided and you may select the dates available to participate.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students in learning for simulation based assignments.
- Communicates with assigned students via email, video/Zoom, or phone when needed for schedule and simulation time appointments and clarification, simulation practice, biannual evaluations, and other responsibilities.
- Participates in person or virtually in 70% of departmental meetings.
- Evaluates student performance fairly using provided rubrics and anecdotal input to program administrator.
- Assists NAP faculty with programmatic events as needed.
- Meets bi-annually with assigned students for didactic and clinical performance check-ins and completes associated paperwork.
- Assists in maintaining simulation laboratory organization and submitting supply order to administrator as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
