Job Overview
The Echo/Vascular Technologist performs both echocardiography and vascular duplex ultrasound examinations under the guidance of a cardiologist and medical director. This role requires technical proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment, interpreting preliminary results, and providing high-quality patient care in a cardiology setting
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex echocardiography (trans-thoracic, stress, contrast echocardiograms) and vascular duplex ultrasound (peripheral venous/arterial, extracranial cerebrovascular, visceral/renal vascular)
- Conduct preliminary interpretation of studies, noting abnormal pathology and notifying physicians of life-threatening or relevant findings
- Operate and maintain echocardiography and vascular ultrasound equipment, including calibration, cleaning, and troubleshooting
- Prepare patients for procedures, explain the process, and position them appropriately
- Document patient information, test results, and final reports in the EMR; handle clerical duties such as study preparation, logging, archiving, and charge entry
- Collaborate with cardiologists and other medical staff, reviewing procedures as needed
- Travel to alternate locations as required to meet patient care needs
- Demonstrate empathy, accountability, and professionalism in patient interactions
- Maintain equipment and work areas for operational and safety compliance
Required Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in echocardiography required, vascular ultrasound preferred
- Ability to interpret preliminary study results
- Strong patient care and communication skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Ability to work under general supervision and follow established protocols
- Positive attitude toward change and new procedures
- 1 years of experience as an Echo Tech preferred
Typical Education & Certification
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or related field
- RDCS or RCS certification required, RVT or equivalent certification preferred
- BLS/ACLS certification recommended
