About this role:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director, U.S. Open Championships, this position oversees the organization, planning, and execution of U.S. Open Championship Operations, specifically associated with USGA key stakeholders including but not limited to corporate hospitality, executives, merchandise, marketing partnerships, and rules administration.

Focus will be on planning, communicating, educating and overseeing executing of departmental onsite championship operational needs. Proper financial management will be critical to the role, including advanced forecasting and post-championship invoice reconciliation.

This position will be expected to travel regularly to upcoming U.S. Open championship sites, including annual extended stay at the U.S. Open venue from mid-May through late June.

What you’ll do:
  • Annually plan and execute onsite U.S. Open operational requirements for USGA Partnerships including activations, branding and miscellaneous week-of activities.
  • Integrate partnerships requirements into vendor scopes and execution timeline.
  • Create “best practices” plan, including accurate financial forecasting and post-championship reconciliation procedures.
  • Manage advanced site visits with partnerships department and their respective vendors.
  • Annually plan and execute onsite Merchandise facilities. Work with USGA Merchandise department and their vendors to determine onsite facility requirements, both on the interior & exterior, of the Merchandise Pavilion(s).
  • Integrate the requirements into operations vendors scopes and timelines.
  • Build a best practices program to be used moving forward for new apparel outfitter, Peter Millar, who will be providing all interior fixtures within the Merchandise Pavilions.
  • Properly forecast and manage operational expenses against budget.
  • Annually plan and execute onsite marketing activations and signage requirements. Work with USGA Marketing department and their agencies to determine onsite facility requirements (i.e. USGA Museum/Experience) and integrate into operations vendor scopes and timelines.
  • Work with the Sr. Director of Operations on the brand implementation into U.S. Open signage program.
  • Collaborate with U.S. Open Corporate Hospitality team to determine annual operational needs, including staff areas, client concierge services, volunteer support, and applicable signage.
  • Support operations team as necessary with various corporate hospitality initiatives and facility planning.
  • Integrate the requirements into operations vendors scopes and timelines.
  • Assist Senior Director with future site hospitality program financial analyses.
  • Manage onsite facility and equipment requirements for various USGA staff departments, including but not limited to Rules, Executive, Legal, HR, Finance & Digital Media.
  • Additionally, create a U.S. Open Staff Guide as a primary resource for all USGA employees who will travel to work onsite at the U.S. Open. Collaborate with various Championship team members to gather appropriate data and information to include and distribute to USGA staff in advance of their arrival to site.
  • Support Championship Operations team with general vendor and site planning needs, including but not limited to vendor meeting preparations, procurement and scope development, onsite vendor management and special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Championship Office annually to identify equipment & services needed to support the parking, transportation & public safety operations.
  • Integrate the requirements into operations vendors scopes and timelines.
What you bring:
  • 6 years in golf operations or related temporary event field.
  • Evidence of strong budget management skills, with ability to forecast and track expense through duration of project execution.
  • Evidence of strong written communication skills, with ability to collect, analyze and disseminate information in a detailed and efficient manner.
  • Extensive knowledge of vendor planning, communication, and construction management.
  • Ability to create and manage relationships with internal USGA departments and subsequently their agencies.
  • Diplomatic personality, able to collaborate with wide variety of personalities and backgrounds, under pressure and while maintaining calm demeanor.
  • Ability to problem solve, think “outside the box”, able to anticipate and analyze issues and provide logical solutions.
  • Able to travel and work long hours, including weekends and holidays, at a fast and efficient pace.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports, Business Management, or related field recommended.
  • Proficient computer skills required, specifically Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher).
  • Familiarity with various design and layout software, including ArcGIS, AutoCAD and SketchUp (or similar). Expertise within these software’s is a plus.
Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000
The annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000. This range represents what we reasonably expect to pay as starting base compensation for this role. Compensation is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, and relevant certifications. In addition to your base compensation, the USGA provides competitive benefit offerings for all full-time employees.
