Sabetha Middle School is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and student-focused Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities in achieving academic, social, and emotional success. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and families to provide individualized support and foster an inclusive learning environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing educational programs, accommodations, and activities for students with special needs.
- Support students in their academic, social, behavioral, and emotional development.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, and other school professionals to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction based on students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Assist students with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, eating, mobility, and other needs as required.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to teachers and appropriate staff.
- Maintain accurate records related to student behavior, academic performance, and progress toward goals.
- Support classroom management and encourage positive student behavior.
- Assist with supervision during classroom activities, transitions, and other school-related functions.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administration.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Previous experience working with children is preferred.
- Experience working with students with disabilities or special needs is highly desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of special education practices, developmental disabilities, early childhood education, or related fields is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and understanding when working with diverse student populations.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic math skills necessary to support student learning.
- Ability to follow directions and implement instructional plans developed by certified staff.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist students throughout the school day.
- Ability to lift, transfer, or assist students when necessary and as trained.
- Ability to perform duties in a variety of classroom and school settings.
