As the home for USC Trojans football since 1923, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum also plays host to concerts, international soccer matches, the Olympics, festivals, and numerous other events. The Coliseum just completed a $315 million-dollar renovation that will usher in a new era of service as we continue to strive to be “The Greatest Stadium in the World.”

We are seeking an Athletic Fields Supervisor to join our rapidly growing team.

As our Athletic Fields Supervisor, you will lead our team to ensure that our athletes have the highest quality fields available for training, collegiality, and competition. The Accountabilities:
  • Supervise athletic fields staff. Screen and interview applicants and make hiring decisions. Train staff and counsel or discipline as needed. Provide performance feedback and prepare documented appraisals. Determine and/or recommend unit salary administration including raises, promotions and/or reclassifications.
  • Assess athletic fields maintenance workload and schedule staff accordingly. Develop, plan, and implement annual renovation and maintenance programs for athletic fields to optimize turf play quality. Determine staffing needs for peak volumes and/or special projects and arrange for temporary workers. Authorize overtime as appropriate. Ensure staff is adequately trained and cross-trained to promote continuity of operations during vacations and extended absences.
  • Trains and supports staff and team leader(s). Integrates the Pay for Skills program, provides forms and supplies, schedules training, and gives/receives feedback for staff training and development. Verifies completion of Pay for Skills training requirements.
  • Monitor workflow for efficiency and timeliness. Set priorities based on landscape conditions, weather, and special events.
  • Reviews work for quality, completion, accuracy and adherence to internal operating policies and procedures. Addresses problems and errors and provides feedback.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff for training purposes and for problem-solving. Provide background and interpretation of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Determine costs of equipment, materials, and supplies and price accordingly. Order materials, supplies, and equipment. Liaises with vendors on issues related to products, services and delivery.
  • Maintain specialized equipment and provides training for staff and/or student workers on utilization of equipment. Make minor repairs and/or coordinate with vendors for preventive maintenance, repairs, and/or enhancements. Research and prepare recommendations for acquisitions of specialized equipment.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and internal systems which support the work of the unit. Define needs and coordinate the development of manual and/or automated systems to facilitate workflow.
  • Ensure records are kept up-to-date and maintained in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain unit statistics on productivity and generate reports for review by manager. Prepare standing and/or ad hoc reports for management. Gather data, determine report format, and generate information.
  • Plan and administer income and expense budgets. Develop projections. Track actual income and expenses and adjust operating plans to address variances.
  • Secures all athletic facilities and fields to ensure proper use. Contacts Department of Public Safety to report unauthorized usage and personnel.
  • Develops and implements security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinates security activities with Department of Public Safety. Promotes and maintains standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintains knowledge of University's crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensures dissemination of security related information to staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The Qualifiers:
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience: 5 years.
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of athletic fields maintenance with progressive leadership/management/supervision experience. Thorough knowledge of sports turf maintenance with knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Valid CA driver's license required. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. A copy of DMV record will be required as a final condition of employment. What We Prefer:
  • Preferred Education: Associate’s Degree.
  • Preferred Experience: 7 years of experience within a college/university environment.
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Knowledge of UPC and/or HSC campuses.

The annual base salary range for this position is $68,375.46-$72,000.00.
