In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Applicant must have experience driving and performing repairs and maintenance on farm equipment including but not limited to tractors with various implements, skid steer, trucks, and trailers.
  • Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions with minor supervision.
  • Basic computer experience preferred.
  • Certification in tractor/vehicle/equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Must provide a copy of driving record.
  • Occasional climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 75 pounds.
  • Work is performed inside and outside.
  • Subject to the elements of weather such as exposure to sun, wind, dust, soils, rain and snow, and hazards of equipment, contagious diseases, and horse related injuries such as exposure to bites, scratches, kicks and animal waste.
  • Operation of tractors and equipment may be performed on rough terrain and open pastures, that may produce rough, jolting rides and may require manipulation of equipment in and around fenced areas.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to satisfactory complete the applicable background investigation.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Responsibilities:

  • Operates vehicles and equipment including but not limited to tractors, UTV's, trucks, livestock trailers, dump truck, skid steer and other types of farm vehicles, trailers, and equipment as necessary.
  • Drive trucks and farm vehicles to move grain, hay, bedding, and other supplies to and from various barns and storage areas.
  • Safely utilizes tractors and skid steer using appropriate implements to clean corrals, load manure into spreader, dump truck and/or dump trailer.
  • Empty truck or trailer in designated areas.
  • Safely loads/unloads and moves hay bales, pallets of feed and bedding, and other supplies.
  • Performs daily maintenance inspections and minor maintenance on tractors, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Reports Equipment needs to EC Management. Makes minor repairs to fences and facility.
  • Performs maintenance and cleaning checks on tractors, trailers, and farm equipment.
  • Proficient in hitching procedures.
  • Effectively performs minor maintenance on other items as required.
  • As required, replaces internal engine components, ie: rings, pistons, valves, gaskets, rods and bearings according to manufacturer's specifications when required.
  • Checks all equipment for loose components and ensures it properly works before renting to a customer.
  • Changes oil, spark plugs, filters, belts as required.
  • Must be able to work with the Vehicle Control Officer to ensure all vehicles under the Outdoor Recreation umbrella have current registration and all necessary forms are properly filled out and updated monthly.
  • Clean and maintain all vehicles.
  • Must be able to identify equipment problems, determine what adjustments are necessary, or when parts must be replaces.
  • Selects tools and determines work sequence.
  • Supervisor is available for assistance in resolving difficult problems.
  • Work is spot checked for completeness, accuracy and compliance with instructions and guides.
  • Assists in a variety of duties to help assure success of the Equestrian Center boarding and rental riding activities.
  • Assists at events and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains knowledge of current programs to provide effective customer service and assist with rental activities.
  • Maintains basic knowledge of horse care, may assist with feeding, watering, tacking, and other horse related care duties.
  • Observes horses for obvious changes in behavior, appearance, and activity; informs supervisor if necessary
