Responsibilities
The Manager of the Core Laboratory is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of the Chemistry, Hematology, and Flow Cytometry areas. This role ensures that the sections of the laboratory operate in compliance with regulatory standards, company policies, and quality control guidelines. The manager will lead, supervise, and mentor laboratory staff, coordinate logistics, ensure resource allocation, and manage budgets to optimize efficiency and productivity.
Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of all Core Lab sections ensuring smooth functioning and operational efficiency; Develop and implement operational procedures and protocols across all testing platforms; Coordinate with the management and quality teams to ensure we are maintaining the overall company goals.
Staff Supervision: Lead, supervise, and mentor laboratory personnel, including MT (MLS), MLT, and support staff; Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement staff development and training programs; Ensure that all sections are adequately staffed, and assist in recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
Quality Control and Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to laboratory regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission) and ensure compliance with safety protocols; Ensure all sections meet quality control guidelines and implement corrective actions when necessary; Conduct regular audits and inspections with quality to ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory standards:
Resource Management: Manage inventory, supplies, and equipment ensuring availability and functionality; Coordinate logistics for the acquisition, storage, and distribution of laboratory resources; Ensure cost-effective use of resources and work within established budgets; Reporting and Data Management; Oversee the documentation and reporting processes for laboratory results and ensure accuracy in data handling; Provide regular reports to senior management on laboratory performance, productivity, and any operational issues; Collaborate with IT and data teams to ensure proper management of laboratory information systems.
Budgeting and Financial Management: Work with senior management to manage the annual budget of the department, working to optimize cost-effectiveness without compromising quality; Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact between the Core Lab and management; Represent the Core Laboratory sections in meetings and strategic discussions with key stakeholders; Regular and prompt attendance; Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; Related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and six years of laboratory experience. Supervisory experience required. Current registry with ASCP as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist
