In this role, you will: As a Research & Development Co-op for Burt’s Bees, you will work with a team of scientists and engineers located in Durham, North Carolina to deliver and maintain a robust pipeline of innovative personal care and cosmetic products for this fast paced, exciting and growing business. You will have a variety of assignments within the Burt’s Bees Lab, Pilot Plant and Manufacturing facility. This is a full-time position, with the expectation that you will work 40 hours per week for a 6-month period. What we look for: In this role, you will: Work closely with the R&D team to identify and execute against opportunities to develop or improve upon lab and pilot plant capabilities such as new test methods, processes and manufacturing efficiencies Contribute to developing new and innovative products and processes working in the lab and pilot plant Define, develop and execute SOPs, best practices, testing plans and test methods Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to identify and make recommendations for cost savings of existing components, formulas and manufacturing processes Assist with planning and executing manufacturing line trials, making observations and drawing conclusions Establish necessary specification information for raw materials, packaging components and formulas Use digital tools like JMP to analyze and interpret data to make recommendations that drive efficiency and manage risk What we look for: Junior or Senior in Cosmetic Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, BioEngineering, or BioChemistry is preferred with a minimum 3.0 GPA or higher Experience working in a chemistry lab, familiarity with standard practices and safety protocols with chemicals and instruments. Ability to build strong relationships and communicate with clarity Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to adapt quickly and inspire action Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously and effectively Confident self-starter, capable of working independently and cross-functionally with minimal supervision and direction in a fast-paced environment Additional Information The applicable pay range for this role in the U.S. is based on your work location according to the cost of labor in your area. *$22 - $28/hr All ranges are subject to change in the future.
