Requirements

The Head Coach for Women’s Squash is responsible for the recruitment and retention, supervision, and coaching varsity student-athletes, under the guidelines of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Collegiate Squash Association (CSA) and carries out duties within the stated philosophy of Georgetown athletics and its educational mission, and will adhere to all institutional and applicable NCAA and CSA regulations to ensure the University’s compliance. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach for Women’s Squash has duties that include but are not limited to:

Creates and implements effective competition, practice and conditioning plans for the student-athletes

  • Organize, prepare, and conduct individual and team practices and training, developing effective drills and strategies for player improvement.
  • Monitor strength conditioning and speed workout programs, creating and administering the off-season training program.
  • Design competition plans and strategies, as well as workout programs, drills, and training routines to improve athletic performance.
  • Work closely with strength and conditioning staff to develop workout programs and training routines to enhance athletic performance.
  • Organize and lead coaches’ preparatory meetings, implementing strategies resulting from these meetings.
  • Evaluate individual student-athlete’s performance in both practice and competition, providing instruction in areas of deficiency as required.
  • Provide leadership and problem-solving assistance for student-athletes, monitoring the conduct of student-athletes and assisting in creating and monitoring team rules and policies.
  • Communicate and cooperate with the training staff regarding the medical clearance, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and the status of injured athletes, assisting in risk management for all team events.

Manages recruitment of the best women’s squash student-athletes within the admissions, financial and regulatory standards and policies established by the University, NCAA and CSA

  • Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes who meet appropriate academic as well as athletic profiles as set by Georgetown Admissions and the Department of Athletics, identifying talent by watching various games, combines, and videos.
  • Maintain contact with prospects through letters, email, phone calls, on-campus and home visits – including the coordination the recruitment of high school and international players, administration of travel arrangements for official and unofficial visits, submission of advances and reconciling expenses, and provision of recommendations with supporting documentation for admissions.
  • Conduct recruitment of student-athletes in accordance with university and NCAA rules. Develop and continually update a comprehensive recruiting database system with prospect information.

Commits to the academic success and personal development of student-athletes

  • Work to ensure the academic success of student-athletes through effective communication with Academic Coordinator for Student-Athletes, monitoring academic progress and class attendance.
  • Assist with scheduling of classes, monitoring study halls, and provide advice to student-athletes on appropriate contacts and counseling through university Academic Resource Center.
  • Counsel student-athletes regarding their compliance with all rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility, personal conduct, and life skills. Provide support and advice for student-athletes on personal and emotional issues, working to develop leadership skills, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct among student-athletes.
  • Assist in creating a team atmosphere of tolerance, teamwork, integrity, and commitment, attending regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings and meetings concerning student welfare.

Conducts administrative responsibilities of the women’s squash program in an efficient and responsible manner

  • Work with different areas within the Athletic Department – for example, equipment room, facilities, sports medicine, sports information, strength and conditioning) to ensure proper communication of practices, meetings, field preparation and other needs.
  • Coordinate with equipment managers and student managers to ensure the necessary athletic equipment has been ordered and is available for scheduled practices and competitive events, that repairs or replacements are handled appropriately, and that practice apparel and contest uniforms are collected, laundered and issued at appropriate times.
  • Ensure fiscal responsibility by administering the program’s budget within University and department guidelines, including preparing team budgets; submitting expense reports, and maintaining mileage reports.
  • Organize and monitor expenses and revenues for fundraisers, special events and summer programs.
  • Plan and arrange team travel (to include coordination of transportation, lodging, and meals), scheduling and arranging home and away practice times.

Manages program promotion, public relations/community outreach appearances, and media-related activities

  • Represent the Athletics Department and the women’s squash program to various institutional and external entities such as media, students, parents, prospective student-athletes, alumni, and the general public (for example, exhibitions, parent tailgates, community services, fundraising, and alumni events).
  • Participate in approved public relations activities, to include interviews with newspaper, radio and television media, attending press conferences, and making public appearances at clinics or camps.
  • Organize and work camps, clinics, and special events, along with the annual team banquet for student-athletes, parents, and administrators.
  • Assist in the creation of team media guide and newsletters, along with the planning and coordinating of approved fundraising activities.
  • Maintain an updated alumni list, organize alumni competitions and activities, create alumni newsletters, and cultivate and maintain a community contact with alumni.

Assures compliance with all conference, department, NCAA and CSA regulations, and assist to ensure departmental compliance

  • Take responsibility for the actions of all institutional staff members who report, directly or indirectly, to the head coach.
  • Promote an atmosphere of compliance within his or her program and monitor the activities of all institutional staff members involved with the program who report, directly or indirectly, to the coach.
  • Successfully pass NCAA coaches certification test, attending all compliance seminars and reviews.
  • Account for CSA and NCAA rules and regulations and submit documentation as required by the CSA and NCAA to the athletic department’s compliance office, attending Coaches Association meetings.

Work Interactions

The head women’s squash coach reports to the Director of Athletics (or designee). There are 20 positions called Head Coach who support all intercollegiate programs.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred
  • 3 years of experience related to duties and responsibilities specified, preferably at college or university at the varsity level OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 – $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
