Security Officer

Job Description: Location: Chillicothe, OH Compensation: Starting pay $20 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking a vigilant and detail-oriented Security Officer to join our team in Chillicothe, OH. You will be the first line of safety and service for our facility, responsible for high-visibility patrols, strict access control, and proactive risk management. This role is critical in protecting our employees, contractors, and physical assets while ensuring all safety protocols—particularly those involving hazardous materials—are strictly followed.

Key Responsibilities

• Access Control & Verification: Monitor and control building entrances and vehicle gates. Process identification tags and badges for all visitors, employees, and contractors. Verify commercial shipping paperwork for incoming raw chemical deliveries.
• Active Surveillance: Monitor alarm systems and video cameras (CCTV) daily to log and report suspicious activities.
• Patrol & Presence: Conduct random foot and vehicle patrols of buildings, parking lots, and other facility grounds to maintain high visibility and deter unauthorized or illegal actions. Check exterior chemical storage areas and fencing for leaks or tampering.
• Incident Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed notes of all unusual occurrences. Complete daily logs for all incidents, accidents, near misses, fires, unsafe conditions, and property damage occurring during or after hours.
• Emergency Response: Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency services (Fire/EMS). Assist in facility evacuations and maintain accountability of all personnel at assembly points during drills or actual emergencies.
• Communication: Handle incoming and outgoing calls, reporting critical information to the appropriate departments or the immediate supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Licensing(preferred): Must possess a valid driver’s license and candidates must possess a current 20-hour OPOTA Private Security Firearms Certification or be eligible to obtain this certification within 90 days of hire.
• Experience: Previous security guard experience preferred. Experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting is a significant plus.
• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Skills

• Communication: Excellent written communication for detailed incident reporting and strong interpersonal skills for professional interaction with guests and contractors.
• Safety Awareness: Basic understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the ability to recognize chemical hazard placards (NFPA 704).
• Technical: Proficiency in basic computer software (Word, Email) and familiarity with digital visitor management systems.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during patrols.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) as needed for outdoor patrols.
• May include climbing stairs or ladders to inspect facility perimeters.
