Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a highly organized and patient-focused Medical Assistant Supervisor to join our team. The Medical Assistant Supervisor plays a key leadership role in coordinating medical assistant functions and patient care across multiple sites. This position supports the Nursing Director in ensuring efficient patient flow, appropriate staffing, and high-quality care. The Supervisor also oversees training, performance evaluations, and daily operations of the medical assistant team, while occasionally assisting with direct patient care.

  • Hiring pay range: $55,000 - $75,000
    (Based on experience, education, and other factors)

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate daily room assignments and schedule Medical Assistants to support physicians.
  • Monitor physician schedules to identify and resolve coverage issues.
  • Assist with patient care procedures, including taking vitals and performing EKGs and oxymetrics.
  • Assess skill and performance levels of Medical Assistants; conduct annual evaluations.
  • Manage hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations in collaboration with HR.
  • Oversee continuing education and training programs for Medical Assistant staff.
  • Review and approve timecards across multiple sites.
  • Conduct and document Medical Assistant meetings and annual safety training.
  • Communicate operational policy changes and ensure implementation.
  • Attend company meetings, take minutes, and relay information to staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Dispose of hazardous materials properly and follow OSHA Universal Precautions.
  • Supervise Medical Assistants and other non-licensed patient care providers across multiple locations.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • 5 years of clinical experience required
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred
  • CMA, CNA, or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Work will require 10% travel by automobile throughout the local service area. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time. Involves contact with patients and the public.
