Position Overview:

Under the general supervision of the radiation oncologist, non-physician providers evaluate patients, perform routine histories and physical examinations and perform and/or interpret diagnostic tests and/or procedures as detailed in the department-specific scope of practice. Participate in teaching and quality assurance activities with other members of the clinical department. Deliver direct patient care. Provide quality direct/indirect patient care clinically, administratively and/or academically. Supports and adheres to the Cancer Care Northwest Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

The services rendered will be delegated by the supervising radiation oncologist and in accordance with the policies established by the department of radiation oncology and Cancer Care Northwest existing policies.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provides patient assessments through patient exams, medical history, interpretation of diagnostic procedures, and development and implementation of patient treatment plans.
  • Provides consultation and education as a highly specialized practitioner within scope of practice.
  • Managing follow-up patients after treatment completion.
  • Functions independently as an advance practice registered nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) and consults with or refers patients to other health care providers or agencies as appropriate.
  • Uses both advance nursing and medical knowledge in providing direct patient care.
  • Provides diagnostic and pharmacologic management of the disease process and treatment side effects through ongoing assessment, intervention and education in collaboration with the physician.
  • Consults on patients as requested by physicians and/or nurses and provides support as needed. Provides formal and informal educational opportunities for staff with emphasis specific to practice specialty.
  • Integrates an individualized health maintenance program for clientele in the community and office
  • Utilizes resources and problem solves when system barriers occur as the client repeatedly moves through acute, ambulatory, and home care settings.
  • Provides knowledge in area of clinical expertise throughout the following phases of the illness trajectory: prevention, detection, diagnosis, acute care, terminal care/home care, rehabilitation, and survivorship to members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the assessment and management of individuals/families with cancer.
  • Performs all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program

  • Three (3) years' experience in oncology nursing preferred or experience and knowledge in the management of the physiologic and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment
  • State Licensure
  • Current BLS certification
  • Previous experience as oncology nurse practitioner or in oncology in an advanced practice role preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly: stand, walk, grasp, reach, talk, and hear
  • Occasionally: sit, bend, stoop/crouch, lift up to 40 pounds, pull/push up to 40 pounds, and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Vision: clearly see up to 5 feet with or without corrective lenses

Work Environment:

  • will not be exposed to any workplace environmental conditions caused by extreme noise, heat, cold, workplace hazards, or atmospheric dusts/fumes/vapors/mists
  • will be exposed to blood borne pathogens
  • will be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • will be exposed to ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment

Salary DOE - $125,000-$182,000
