About the Role
As a Surface Warfare Officer, you will be in charge of a division of Sailors, managing administrative, operational, maintenance responsibilities. SWOs are expected to learn ship operations across major areas like engineering, navigation, and combat systems, then apply that knowledge while leading Sailors and standing watch.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a division of Sailors responsible for a ship system or mission area (examples include engineering equipment, combat systems maintenance, navigation, or deck seamanship).
- Stand watch underway and in port, progressing through formal watch qualifications until trusted with Officer of the Deck duties.
- Plan and execute shipboard programs such as maintenance, training, inspections, safety, and administrative requirements.
- Manage risk and enforce standards during complex evolutions like underway replenishment, flight quarters, amphibious operations, and restricted waters navigation.
- Integrate with other warfare communities (aviation, submarine, expeditionary) during exercises and real-world operations.
Qualifications
Must be an American Citizen.
Must be between the ages of 18-32
Must have or be in pursuit of a Bachelors degree and have a GPA minimum of 2.75
Pay range and compensation package
Starting out as a brand new officer in the Navy, your base salary will be about $50,000. However, along with a base salary, you are entitled to a housing allowance that will start at around $33,000 , and other stipends included for food, uniforms, and other expenses need on a yearly basis. Amounts for each vary based on location of which you are stationed.
