Janitor

Founded in 1983, Lumber Specialties operates multiple facilities in Dyersville, Story City, Osceola, Iowa and Kirkland, Illinois that total more than 100,000 square feet of manufacturing space on 64 acres. Lumber Specialties produces roof and floor trusses, wall panels as well as providing engineered wood products, steel beams and laminated columns to customers throughout the Midwest. A Brief Overview

The Janitor assists operations by performing a variety of tasks and being responsible for daily housekeeping, minor repairs and maintenance of the company facilities and grounds.

What You Will Do

• Keep interior and exterior of buildings in clean and orderly condition.
• Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning, vacuuming floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment; service, clean, and supply restrooms.
• Clear and remove rubbish.
• Notify management or designated personnel concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems, ordering housekeeping supplies and materials.
• Perform routine P&M on light fixtures, bulbs, etc.
• Inspect and repair minor problems with facility’s plumbing (e.g. fix leaky faucets), electrical (outlet and switches), HVAC (replace AC filters, etc.) and other building systems.
• Maintain grounds around the building keeping everything looking neat by mowing grass, trimming shrubbery using mowers and hand power trimmers.
• Clear snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers and snow shovels.
• Set up, arrange and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
• Gather and empty trash; collect and separate recyclables from trash and deposit in correct collection bins.
• Performs insect and rodent control on periodic basis.
• Understand cleaning chemicals and how they work when combined.
• Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
• Use hand and other related tools to accomplish housekeeping and maintenance tasksFinish, inspect and insure work complies with quality standards and expectations.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  
  

Experience Qualifications

• 1-3 years of commercial housekeeping and building maintenance experience required.
  
  

Skills And Abilities

• Must have excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently.
• Must be knowledgeable and experienced in the use of various hand tools.
• Must have good work ethic, attitude and be reliable.
• Solid basic math skills are necessary.
• Capable of reading and understanding English instructions both written and verbal; read, comprehend and comply with Company’s policies and procedures including safety and security.
• Understanding and commitment to a safe work environment.
