What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equestrian Competition Compliance position at US Equestrian Fed?

 

This position supports the Federation’s mission and vision by demonstrating a commitment to exemplary member service, as well as a collaborative spirit, equality, fairness, respect, and accountability.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction of the Director of Compliance, this position facilitates and monitors all aspects of Federation competition compliance programs that support standards for human and equine safety. This includes implementation of compliance-related programs which include conducting competition site visits; preparing site visit reports and other compliance-related communications; documenting and analyzing data related to competition standards, making recommendations to the Director of Compliance, and other tasks as needed regarding standards, rules and requirements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and produce original, high-level written communications on behalf of the Compliance Department, for internal and external distribution. 
  • Implement USEF Competition Compliance programs consistently and effectively.
  • Maintain internal documentation related to core compliance processes and policies, including updating, organizing, and analyzing competition compliance data that measures program outcomes.
  • Partner with internal teams to develop and maintain Compliance Department processes and ensure their successful implementation.
  • Represent USEF by traveling to and reviewing Federation licensed competitions for compliance with rules and standards that safeguard safety and welfare for members and their equine partners. 
  • Communicate professionally with members and officials during competition compliance visits.
  • Prepare reports and follow-up letters following competition compliance visits.
  • Coordinate and provide key information to contracted compliance representatives.
  • Monitor and respond to written communications from members.
  • Support partnering with internal teams in the development of, and implementation of, competition standards, and rules and regulations.
  • Complete temporary or special projects, as assigned.
  • Organize and book travel, and track travel expenses.
  • Exceptional member service is provided, and member relationships are enhanced.
  • Communication with members and staff is effective and professional.
  • Relationships with Directors and other staff are productive and promote a positive team environment.
  • Assistance is provided to other department members when needed.
  • Approximately 20% travel, including on weekends, is likely. 

 

Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Exhibit exemplary discretion, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required. 
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations. 
  • Must be able to assess and prioritize projects and issues within the broader mission of the organization.  
  • Ability to adapt and problem-solve with minimal oversight while interacting with members in the field.  
  • Affinity to gather and analyze data.
  • Must be proficient in the use of the Internet and Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.        
  • Some college preferred.
  • Experience in investigation, review of compliance and policy issues preferred.
  • Experience with USEF rules, policies, and systems preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. (Anything over 25 pounds requires a two person lift) 
  • Must be able to travel and to conduct onsite competition inspections and traverse the competition grounds to ensure a thorough review.
  • Must have extended hours of availability, including occasional evenings and weekends.
