Job Description:

A Confidential Company in Browns Summit, NC is seeking an experienced MIG/TIG Welder for a first shift Contract to Hire opportunity.

This position specifically focuses on welding 304 stainless steel, primarily in thin gauges ranging from 20 gauge to 16 gauge. Candidates must have relevant hands on welding experience and be capable of producing clean, consistent, quality welds while controlling heat input and distortion.

This is not a training opportunity. Candidates must already possess the welding skills necessary to set up their equipment, perform proper fit up, interpret drawings and welding symbols, and complete MIG and TIG welds that meet established quality standards.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Perform MIG and TIG welding on 304 stainless steel components and assemblies
• Weld material primarily ranging from 20 gauge to 16 gauge stainless steel
• Perform welding in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
• Set up welding equipment independently, including wire feed rate, gas selection, current, and voltage
• Adjust welding parameters to achieve proper fusion, penetration, appearance, and overall weld quality
• Position and secure components using jigs, fixtures, guides, blocking, and clamping techniques
• Control heat and distortion when welding thin gauge stainless steel
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, welding symbols, joint designs, dimensions, and tolerances
• Select appropriate welding wire or rod based on material thickness and application
• Perform fit up and verify component positioning before welding
• Measure and inspect completed parts to verify dimensions, fit up, and weld quality
• Identify weld defects or quality concerns and communicate discrepancies to supervision
• Use measuring and layout tools including rules, squares, scribes, and templates
• Operate grinders, drills, cleaning tools, and other common fabrication equipment
• Perform routine cleaning and minor preventive maintenance on welding equipment
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all required PPE and safety procedures

Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year of TIG welding experience required
• Previous stainless steel welding experience strongly preferred
• Experience with 304 stainless steel is highly preferred
• Experience welding thin gauge stainless steel, particularly 20 gauge through 16 gauge, is strongly preferred
• Must have working knowledge of both MIG and TIG welding processes
• Must be able to independently set wire feed rate, gas, current, and voltage based on the welding application
• Must understand proper fusion, weld quality, heat control, and distortion control
• Must be able to read blueprints, engineering drawings, welding symbols, dimensions, and tolerances
• Must understand fit up, joint preparation, and proper component positioning
• Must be comfortable using measuring instruments and verifying finished parts against specifications
• Must understand basic shop math including fractions, decimals, whole numbers, and basic geometry
• Welding certifications are preferred but are not required
• Must be able to work independently with limited day to day supervision while maintaining consistent quality and productivity
• Must be able to stand for extended periods and handle fabricated components as required

ONLY candidates with relevant MIG and TIG welding experience will be considered.

This is NOT an entry level position and is NOT a training opportunity.

Additional Details:

The primary welding shop is climate controlled.

This is a Contract to Hire opportunity with the potential to become a full time employee based on performance, attendance, quality, and business needs.

Upon conversion to full time employment, the company pays the employee health care premium.
