Transportation Assistant

The Transportation Assistant - Beneficiary Travel - acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The Transportation Assistant in this position will be required to have an overall knowledge of the organization, its mission, goals and impact on patients, personnel, community, and the nation. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Transportation Assistant will serve as a primary contact for Veterans, doctors, nurses and administrative staff to arrange travel for eligible Veterans to appointments and residence when appropriate, using laws and regulations to distinguish/ensure reimbursements are legitimate or if fraudulent activity is being conducted by the beneficiary. The Transportation Assistant must also possess some knowledge of clinical services, related software, and programs as they relate to computing and office automation.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

Performing regular reconciliations of accounts and adjusting account balances.

Responsible for determining method of payment for authorized and unauthorized claims submitted for consideration.

Responsible for balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment.

Reconciling vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certifications for payment.

Determining eligibility for the program.

Responsible for forwarding all invoices certified for payment.

Writing and/or selecting appropriate letters explaining disposition of unauthorized claims.

Explaining regulations and guidelines to beneficiaries.

Communicating and interacting with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation.

Conducting regular and recurring contact with personnel external to the agency for the obtainment of services.

Responding to client requests and seeks resolution of family/patient/employee complaints.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: Monday -Friday 7:30PM -4:30PM

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience GS-5: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Transportation Assistant - Qualifying specialized experience includes using initiative and working independently within the framework established by the Supervisor in carrying out recurring assignments such as scheduling appointments and admissions, data tracking and data collection duties; Follows established procedures or instructions that specifically describe how the work is to be done and the kind of modifications or exceptions that can be made; Refers specific problems not covered by the Supervisor's instructions or standard operating procedures to Supervisor or higher-level employee for assistance and/or decision.

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION GS-5 (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Transcripts must be submitted at time of application. ~OR~

COMBINATION GS-5 (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level.
