The Phoenix VA Health Care System is seeking a Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition) to lead registered dietitians and clinical nutrition programs. This role provides expert consultation, oversees evidence-based nutrition services, guides program development and implementation, supervises staff, and expands clinical nutrition and tele-nutrition services for Veterans across the system.
EDUCATION: ACEND accredited programs are located on the ACEND website or at ACEND Accredited Programs Directory . RESPONSIBILITIES: The Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition) is responsible for providing administrative and technical leadership for the Clinical Nutrition Section and may travel to other locations within the Phoenix VA Health Care System/32nd Street Clinic.
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Coordinates the work assignments based on priorities, capabilities of the employee. Leads the monthly outpatient nutrition staff meeting and co-leads clinical department meetings.
Assists with the direction of a personnel management program for the service by delegating responsibility to subordinates and holding them responsible for the performance of their sections.
Guides subordinates on problems solving, decision making, delegation, change management, performance improvement management and labor-management relations.
Coordinates the nutrition care program to accommodate changes associated with administration, science, education, and research.
Assures nutrition activities are coordinated with other initiatives at a local, VISN and national level to provide for a quality outpatient nutrition program.
Conducts and/or participates in nutrition research studies and communicates findings through reports, abstracts, presentations, and publications.
Work Schedule : Monday-Friday 07:00am-3:30pm but work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the service.

QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements :
United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements.
Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition), GS-12 Grade Determinations :
Experience ( must be clearly annotated on your resume) . One year of Dietitian experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ( must be clearly annotated on your resume) . In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Knowledge of accrediting requirements in clinical nutrition to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements.
Skill as a nutrition expert to provide technical guidance, direction and staff development.
Skill in Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement and coordinate best practices.
Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems.
Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).
Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources.
Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience and/or experience in a Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) or TeleMOVE position.
