Position is located in Lake City, FL. In the Environmental Management Service of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Healthcare System (NF/SG VAHCS) EDUCATION: This job does not have an education qualification requirement. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent receives, at the soiled linen dock or throughout medical centers, all laundry items collected.

Incumbent independently sorts items received into washing classification based on fabric content, color, and degree of soil or stains. Incumbent takes into account special processing items, such as, blankets, surgery linens, and isolation linen. incumbent wears proper protective clothing while sorting linens to prevent acquiring infection.

Incumbent ensures that all soiled laundry and equipment are kept physically separate from the clean laundry side of the processing plant. After each soiled laundry delivery is sorted and as the incumbent makes up wash loads, the wash classifications are weighed, and the weight recorded in the production record.

Incumbent processes the wash classification through the washroom equipment, which consists of 90lbs., 200 lbs., and 400 lbs. dry weight capacity pass-through washer/ extractors.

Incumbent uses the 90 lbs. washer to process special items such as drapes, curtains, uniforms, etc. Incumbent ensures that laundry is processed in order of priority needed or according to the general production schedule.

Incumbent, on the clean side of the laundry plant, unloads the pass-through washer/extractor into laundry bags and sends the wet wash to other processing department within the laundry plant.

Incumbent will load and unload the commercial drier/ tumblers and ensures that correct time and proper settings are used for the load being processed.

Incumbent is responsible for the general cleanliness of the washroom at all times and will assist with general housekeeping on the clean side of the plant.

Incumbent will assist where needed on clean side of the laundry plant, as time permits or when a special order is received from the medical centers or elsewhere.

Incumbent will request leave correctly and in a timely manner. Incumbent is responsible for being current in all classes via Talent Management System (TMS).

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized QUALIFICATIONS: PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Frequently lifts wet or dry loads in excess of 10 pounds, stacks of sheets, bags of linen, etc. He/she is subjected to continuous and repetitive standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, and twisting. He/she must stand continuously on concrete floors. Visual acuity must be sufficient for the incumbent to safely operate equipment and perform quality linen processing duties. He/she must use proper body mechanics during the course of his/her work day. He/she will be exposed to excessive heat, noise, humidity, lint, and wet floors. Will be subjected to unpleasant odors and more than normal amounts of blood and body fluids when handling wet and soiled linens.

The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
