The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for routine laboratory and general clerical tasks necessary to support the daily operations of the laboratory.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must have at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Must be able to work collaboratively with co-workers.
- Able to meet the eligibility requirements for employment within a cannabis business set by the state of New Jersey.
- Follows organizational policies and procedures for laboratory operations and complies with all state-specified rules and regulations for cannabis licenses, cannabis transport and cannabis testing.
- Ensures all SOPs, state regulations and safety requirements are followed when handling hazardous waste, flammable waste, corrosive waste, and biohazardous waste.
- Performs compliant documentation of manual or electronic forms and logs exercising principles of good documentation procedure for all essential duties performed.
- Adhere to Good Documentation Practices (GDP) for the completion of laboratory logs, forms, worksheets, or other documentation. Proficiently utilizes Microsoft Word and Excel, and other laboratory information management systems.
- Performs sample inventory and tracking activities including but not limited to: a. Intake and accessioning. b. Accurate measurement and documentation of sample weights/volumes/units. c. Compliant cannabis destruction. d. Completion of supporting laboratory documentation for compliance.
- Sample homogenization, as needed.
- Assists in receiving supplies and following appropriate inventory processes, including stocking or re-stocking supply shelves, cataloging physical inventory of supplies and laboratory reagents, notifying Management of supply shortages and compliant documentation of associated forms and logs.
- Performs general clerical tasks including but not limited to filing, scanning and data entry.
- Performs laboratory glassware cleaning and general lab cleaning and organization, including and disposal of trash and recycling in designated waste containers, as needed.
- Works in a timely manner, while striving to improve quality and maintain accuracy during all laboratory activities.
- Prepare samples, independently, using aseptic techniques including compliant documentation of associated forms and logs.
- Participates in and endeavors to complete training and be determined competent for sample collection, and sample preparation using aseptic techniques.
- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned by Management, which may include cannabis sampling and transport.

- Frequent contacts and interruptions during the day.
- Video and/or audio surveillance for security purposes where laboratory activities are performed.
- Use of personal protection equipment to limit exposure to chemicals or other hazards found within a laboratory environment.
- Potential exposure to loud noises, fumes, or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
