Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serve as a Mobile Equipment Servicer (Motor Vehicle Operation) at Arlington National Cemetery. Since May of 1864, Arlington National Cemetery has served as the nation's premier military cemetery and shrine honoring those men and women who served in the Armed Forces.

Duties

  • Perform routine maintenance services on a wide variety of automotive, heavy mobile, combat, construction, and powered support equipment
  • Utilize various testing equipment to measure battery performance, antifreeze levels, clear equipment, error codes, etc.
  • Remove, repair, and replace wheel/tire assemblies of all sizes of the scheduled service.
  • Take oil samples in accordance with Army Oil Analysis Program from equipment components.
  • Operate vehicles to bring them indoors for repair or service and initial and final road test.
  • Use blueprints and other technical guides to make sound decisions when servicing vehicles.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license. May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.
  • Position has been designated "Mission Essential". (see additional information)
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. (see additional information)
  • Position requires the employee the ability to lift up to 50 pounds (lbs), considered heavy lifting.
  • Must wear uniform IAW AR 670-10 local policy.
  • One year probationary period may be required

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mobile Equipment Servicer (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. performing common mechanical tasks such as checking fluid levels, changing filters, cleaning battery boxes, flushing radiators, lubricating fittings, and replacing small parts and accessories on mobile equipment - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Lifts objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and lifts heavier items with assistance. Incumbent frequently walks, stands, bends, reaches, and works in awkward positions. The incumbent frequently works on top of equipment at heights up to 18 feet above the ground. Physical effort is needed at this level to maneuver the longer and heavier vehicles, especially when backing these vehicles.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent works outside in all types of weather. Indoor work is done in dirty, oily, and greasy areas where there is constant exposure to cuts, bruises and burns. Incumbent operates motor vehicles on public roads all over the surrounding area in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions
