Job Description
The Student Assistant Program at Urshan recognizes exemplary students with rewarding positions of responsibility, giving students the opportunity to explore the vocation of teaching. Students provide assistance to faculty in managing large courses and course-loads, building relationships between students and professors. Each grading assistant assignment is documented in a Teaching Assistant agreement that defines roles and responsibilities and is signed by the student, professor, and appropriate academic dean. This creates a system of shared governance with defined expectations, responsibilities and procedures that protects both the faculty and students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Grading Assistants will work no more than 10 hours a week. Responsibilities are varied by course and instructor but may include:
- Limited grading of term papers (e.g. checking grammatical, citation, and other mechanical errors)
- Grading tests, quizzes, journals, and other assignments
- Recording and tracking student’s grades
Qualifications
- Upper-level undergraduate student
- Exceptional academic record
- Annual FERPA training
- Cannot be enrolled in any course they are working in
