Job Title: Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities include complying with privacy laws, processing patient forms, and ensuring that all patient medical records are accurate and organized for Physicians and other medical staff. Compile, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system.

  • Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
  • Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor medical facility activities to ensure adherence to standards or regulations.
  • Process patient admission or discharge documents.
  • Perform clerical work in medical settings.
  • Resolve or clarify codes or diagnoses with conflicting, missing, or unclear information by consulting with doctors or others or by participating in the coding team's regular meetings.
  • Retrieve patient medical records for physicians, technicians, or other medical personnel.
  • Release information to people or agencies according to regulations.
  • Plan, develop, maintain, or operate a variety of health record indexes or storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store, or analyze information.
  • Maintain medical facility records.
  • Process medical billing information.
  • Record patient medical histories.
  • Process and prepare business or government forms.
  • Prepare official health documents or records.
  • Process healthcare paperwork.
  • Consult classification manuals to locate information about disease processes.
  • Maintain medical or professional knowledge.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Education and Experience

· Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, or

· Specialized training and/or certification.

· One year experience in a Health Information setting.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.

Salary : $37,413 - $47,581
