Radiation Therapist Assistant

Summary of Job:

• The Radiation Therapist Assistant supports the Radiation Oncology team by assisting Radiation Therapists with patient preparation, transportation, scheduling coordination, room readiness, and patient care activities. This position helps ensure efficient patient flow, maintains a safe and comfortable environment for patients, and provides exceptional customer service throughout the treatment process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Escorts patients from waiting areas to treatment and exam rooms.
• Assists patients with changing into appropriate attire for treatment and procedures.
• Assists patients with mobility needs, including wheelchair transport and transfer assistance as appropriate.
• Prepares treatment rooms by ensuring they are clean, organized, and properly stocked.
• Assists Radiation Therapists with patient positioning and immobilization under direct supervision.
• Provides support and reassurance to patients throughout their visit.
• Assists with patient preparation for simulation and treatment procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes treatment rooms and equipment in accordance with infection control guidelines.
• Maintains department supplies and reports inventory needs to leadership.
• Assists patients with safely entering and exiting treatment tables.
• Reports patient concerns, safety issues, or changes in condition to the Radiation Therapist or physician.
• Assists with clerical and administrative tasks as assigned, including scanning, filing, and maintaining patient-related documentation
• Establishes and maintains professional relationships with patients, employees, physicians, and the public.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Radiation Therapists, physicians, or the UAMPA management team.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous healthcare, patient care, medical assistant, nursing assistant, transport, or customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to provide compassionate care and excellent customer service to patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Job Requirements:.

• Ability to operate a computer, printer, copier, telephone, and other standard office equipment.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Ability to assist with patient transport and transfers.
• Must adhere to all radiation safety, infection control, HIPAA, and workplace safety requirements.
• Must demonstrate reliability, compassion, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Must maintain a dependable attendance record and adhere to assigned work schedules.
